Baja: Recs

ABOUT

Best time to visit Baja depends on what you’re interested in doing- January-March has the best whale watching, June-August has the best surf, and Nov-Dec has the calmest waters for kayaking.

My friends and I traveled to Baja, Mexico in May 2021 and stayed in Todos Santos. We were only there for a couple days, so will hopefully be going back.

ACCOMODATION

We went to Todos Santos in part to stay at Hotel San Cristóbal. The hotel lived up to the hype- beautiful architecture/design, thoughtful service and unbelievable food. Other accommodation options include:

FOOD

Higher-End

  • Benno: The restaurant at Hotel San Cristóbal. You can make a dinner reservation even if you’re not staying there and it is worth it.

  • El Mirador: Oceanview restaurant, food wasn’t the best but worth the view.

  • Jazamango: Farm to table restaurant, you can walk around the grounds before eating.

  • Hierbabuena: Little far south from Todos but another well regarded farm to table spot.

  • The Green Room: On the beach, very picturesque (a bit north of Todos), make a reservation and request a fire-pit for sunset.

  • Flora Farms: Went here while saying in Cabo, not Baja (it’s in San Jose Del Cabo proper) highly sought after farm to table spot with live music, gardens you can walk around, a bar and outdoor seating.

ACTIVITIES

  • Day Trip to Isla Espiritu Santo: Mexico’s biggest national park, highlight of our trip. In the colder months you can swim with Whale Sharks, in the warmer months you can swim with Sea Lions.

  • Hike Punta Lobos: 4 miles round trip starting at Hotel San Cristóbal beach.

  • Playa Los Cerritos: Can rent surfboards or even take surf classes for about 25 USD per hour.
